Politics
Essays, commentaries, suggestions, on issues affecting Americans and what just plain annoys me. My grandfather Shaw wrote a political column for a paper back in IL, so I guess this runs in the family.
Politics do matter. To everyone. If we want to live in a compassionate and just society, we need to elect politicians that will represent the people and not special interests. Pay attention to what they do, not what they say.

Is Bush pushing for Nuclear Armageddon?
Nov 4th 2006
I am not one to panic, and I am not a conspiracy theorist, but…. I am getting the impression that Bush is an Armageddon -ist and is trying to help speed the destruction of humanity along.
Ok – so, a couple of years ago I ranted about how Bush et al allowed nuclear materials to be stolen from Iraq (after we invaded) and that this material has ended up on the black market, but that we hadn’t allowed inspectors in to do a survey of exactly what was stolen so it could be better tracked, and looked for on the black market. Republican Lies are about Flogging a Dead Horse
Today - Oct 10 2006, Cal Thomas, conservative columnist wrote a column trying to
justify why people should vote republican in the next election. (See essay) He is wrong, lying and using simplistic, inaccurate thinking.
First off, whenever someone tries to
tell you there are only two options (in this case "Stay the Course" or "Cut and Run") the person trying to convince you of this is
an idiot or a liar or both. They have set up what is known as a false dichotomy. It is dishonest. There is also more then two options available. And in the case of Iraq, the other
options might actually be really good at this point. Write Comment (0 comments) |

Who is Telling the Truth?
9/28/06 The Media is kinda funny about the
facts lately. You would think their job would be to help the public know what is happening. Afterall, if we can't agree on the facts, we
can't get to a consensus about how to solve our problems. And facts aren't that difficult to ascertain. They stand alone, and can be
found out. Yet, our current media climate in an effort to be "fair and balanced" doesn't challenge anyone on their statements
anymore to let the viewer know whether what they just heard was factual or not. The result? Not good.

My Choice:
One woman’s thoughts on the right of
motherhood.
Aug 25, 2005 I am pro-choice. That a woman should have the right to control her
reproductive life is a no-brainer for me. I decided to write this essay because I recently had a conversation with an anti-choice person and it
left me in tears. Not for myself, but for my sisters around the world. Do the anti-choice activists not understand how much violence will
occur if their proposed policies were to make it into law? Or, do they simply not care? I can’t tell, and wasn’t able to
ask. Part of the problem is that when the issue comes up, I get very emotional. This is a very real and intimate issue for me, as I suspect
it is for most women. Write Comment (0 comments) |

Venezuela and Iran
Aug 17 2005 Ok – so it now
seems like Venezuela and Iran are in “discussions.” What, you might ask, do Iran and Venezuela have in common and what could they
possibly be talking about and what impact will these talks have on you? Well, most people are not aware of this, but Hugo Chavez, current
president of Venezuela, is one of the biggest threats to the United States that exists at this moment.

Choice is Key
Aug 12 2005 In order to prevent abortions, we need to prevent unwanted pregnancies. The proposal from the anti-abortion crowd is to
criminalize abortions. The proposal from the pro-choice crowd is to provide people with education, access and equality so that they can choose when and
if to become parents, and thus avoid the need for abortions. Write Comment (0 comments) |

Parallel Universe
June 5 2005 At what point did I move into a parallel universe, one where Arlen Spector is now considered a moderate! As a
liberal, this is a senator I love to hate. He is openly opposed to our Constitution (specifically our Bill of Rights) and has written lots of
legislation attacking it. Write Comment (1 comments) |

Taking a new Look at Taxes
10/15/04 Progressive is about making the world better. Improving things. We might not always agree on how to do that, but that is what progressive is about. It is about not accepting the status quo. Write Comment (0 comments) |
