Politics
Essays, commentaries, suggestions, on issues affecting Americans and what just plain annoys me. My grandfather Shaw wrote a political column for a paper back in IL, so I guess this runs in the family.
Politics do matter. To everyone. If we want to live in a compassionate and just society, we need to elect politicians that will represent the people and not special interests. Pay attention to what they do, not what they say.

Comments on the NH recount
1/14/07
Ok – I have been reading a bunch of comments on a variety of website by people who don’t think the recount is necessary. The vote is what it is and the surveys just got it wrong. Here is the problem with that sort of shallow thinking. Write Comment (0 comments) |

Election Fraud in NH?
1/10/07
I am not a conspiracy person, however, I have learned one very important thing, and that is the exit polls are almost never wrong. In fact, when there is a discrepancy between the exit polls and the voting results, it is considered an excellent indication of election fraud. Well, everywhere but in the US apparently. Finally: Justice?
12/18/07
Ok – so, finally, the Bush administration seems to have gotten caught breaking the law. Finally it looks like a court is actually going to investigate whether they broke the law and take action if they did. Finally! Ok – we can hope. Write Comment (0 comments) |

Presidential Primaries
11/19/07
Ok – so, it appears that the Atlantic has decided to support Obama in the primary. They ran an article by Andrew Sullivan, the gay Republican, about why he is supporting Obama and why Obama is the only candidate that can move us forward, both in the war on terror and at home to heal the divisions in our own country. It was a well thought out article, which made a lot of sense, but like my dad said, it isn’t like I can explain it to anyone. It basically has to do with baby boomers and the residual effects of the Vietnam War. Regardless, the Atlantic is currently the only current events magazine I can stomach right now. The rest of them are too biased to trust and yes, I am talking to you nation. Write Comment (0 comments) |

Grumbling about Health Insurance
11/16/07
I haven’t yet seen Sicko, but I have heard about it from friends and some of the basic information about how insurance company employees just sit around looking for reasons to deny or add extra costs for stupid things is absolutely true. Everyone who has private insurance knows this from first hand experience. Everyone! Write Comment (0 comments) |

Stop Torturing Us!
11/6/07
Honestly, did we really think that the Senate would hold up Mukasey’s nomination to Attorney General? Ok – Yes, I admit, I was hopeful that just once congress might actually stand up to Bush. It is amazing how hope springs eternal. I keep thinking perhaps this time they will do their job, but they don’t. Write Comment (0 comments) |

Misc. Political Musings
11/1/07
They all agree with Joe
Watching the recent Democratic debate, I was struck by one thing. Apparently, all the other candidates agree with Joe Biden. The most oft state phrase the entire night was “I agree with Joe.” And, this considering Joe only got about 6 minutes of airtime to speak in a 2 hour debate. (There were literally more commercials then time for Joe or Chris Dodd).

Bush Election Fraud
10/15/07
Did you know that since exit polls began in the 1960’s, there have only been 7 incidents where the exit polls did not match the final election results, and 6 of those involved a Bush? All involved a republican and all have occurred since 1992.
Election polls are surprisingly accurate and the state department is right when it says that they are one of the only ways to know when election fraud has occurred. Write Comment (0 comments) |
