Pop Culture DivaPop Culture

Ok - I am a pop culture junkie. I love Duran Duran - still, I watch reality tv (not all of them - I do have some standards), and I get excited every time there is a new muppet movie coming out. My family wonders why I enjoy lowbrow entertainment, but have come to accept it. Anyway - enjoy..

This section contains my thoughts and opinions and speculations about the things I like and don't like about pop culture.

The Enlightenment, Gnomes and Wife Swap

Jan 24 2006

The Enlightenment:

Ok – I need to get a few things off my chest.  Whatever happened to enlightened religiosity?  There was a time (the Enlightenment) where it was considered a good thing to be inquisitive.  Science was not in competition with religion.  It actually was a way to express your faith.  After all, if god made the universe, then the more you understand how the universe actually works the more you understand god him/herself.   This was the dominant philosophy in the golden age of Islam and was the dominant philosophy in the Enlightenment.

Mediums and Ghost Hunting

July 25, 2005

My new favorite show is “Most Haunted” which is a travel channel show coming out of England.  While I don’t’ really believe in ghosts, I love this show.  The star of it, from my perspective is “Derek,” their medium.  He is one of the best.

Now, I since I don’t really believe in ghosts, I don’t really believe that mediums are actually communing with the dead.  However, that doesn’t stop me from enjoying Derek’s performance.  Derek, you see, has a spirit guide named Sam.  Sam will apparently interject himself into conversations.  So, for instance, say Derek is speaking with the host, Yvette.  Derek will interrupt his own sentences to answer one of Sam’s questions (which only Derek obviously can hear.)
