Humanist Thought of the Week: 7 6 2010

Skepticism and The Constitution

Because it’s the 4th of July weekend, I thought I would talk a little about skepticism and the Constitution.

Lots of people are going around screaming that Obama is violating our Constitution.

Including some people who consider themselves to be skeptics.

Now, I’ve asked several to tell me specifically what part he is violating and how.

They can’t.

That is because despite being skeptics, none of these people seem to be aware what is actually in our Constitution.

And it’s not as if the Constitution is a difficult read.

Which makes me wonder why people, who claim to be skeptics, don’t apply their skepticism to claims about Constitution.

Just read the darned document and see if what is happening violates the thing.

Seriously, it will take you all of five minutes to do.

If you really want to be a skeptic, don’t just apply your skepticism to religion.

Apply it to your politics as well.
