Humanist Thought of the Week: 7 20 2010

Forgiveness

I have been reading a lot of about ancient Egypt lately.

My son is really into it.

Anyway – one of his books has an article about the concept of forgiveness.

It was apparently considered very important in Ancient Egypt to forgive people who show real contrition.

But forgiveness isn’t just about ensuring good relations between people.

It is also a way to lighten your own heart.

When you forgive, you let go of the anger and hate that has been weighing down your heart.

To forgive someone else is to free yourself.
